Kodachrome Basin State Park

We visited Kodachrome in April 2016 as part of Big Trip #1.

I’m not even allowed to say the name of this park out loud around a certain someone anymore. Because of this.

While everyone is at the National Parks along Rt 12, you can have a quiet visit to the gorgeous Kodachrome Basin State Park, and since it’s a State Park your dog can hike with you! For our run-hikes we chose, with help from the rangers, the 1.5-mile Angels’ Palace Trail and the 3-mile Panorama Trail (be sure to include Panorama Point if you hike this trail). Kodachrome has the beautiful red cliffs and spires typical of the area with big views toward Bryce and Grand Staircase-Escalante, and the park was basically empty when we visited in mid-April, which made for a lovely couple of runs with Bugsy. You’d think Kodachrome was far off the beaten path because it’s so quiet, but it’s just a short drive from Bryce. We loved it. It might be a zoo during high season, but in April it was all ours.
