We were in Bowling Green in mid-December 2023, as part of our Tucson for Christmas trip.
After a lovely afternoon at Mammoth Cave National Park, we drove 40 minutes to Bowling Green for the night.
Campground
The Bowling Green KOA is a nice, big campground, with a quick check-in (which you don’t always get at a KOA) and a convenient location across the street from a lovely county park and a very interesting-looking Aviation Heritage Park. We weren’t there long enough to explore! The convenient location has a trade-off: the interstate was pretty loud!
We had lofty goals of touring the historic areas of Bowling Green, but we were OVER being in the car, so we skipped it. Do we need to return to see Bowling Green’s history?
Eating and drinking
In our super-brief time in Bowling Green, we tried to cram in as much as possible.
First up, a drink at Preservation Tasting Room & Bottle Shop. They have many beers on tap, but none for me, so I had sparkly rosé and was happy.
Pub by Novo is a fun spot in a strip mall–it’s a big sports bar-y restaurant, where we sat at the bar and had a beer and fried pickles. Yum!
And then we went home for dinner: remember how we stopped at Chai Pani in Asheville on our way through to Knoxville? SO GOOD.
We skipped White Squirrel Brewery because it was a 20-minute drive from the campground. Mistake?
In the morning, we took the Airstream to the massive coffee shop we noticed while driving around, Q Coffee. It’s massive! But that means easy parking for the Airstream in the back of the parking lot. The baked goods look delish, and my seasonal latte was soooo good! The barista was lovely, and lots of people were chatting with friends in the cafe area.
And after that quick stay, we moved on to Memphis, and one of my favorite campgrounds!
