OURAY BREWING COMPANY
Ouray is a sweet little mountain town that is a well known southwestern Colorado tourist destination as much for the harrowing approach into the city from nearby Silverton as for the city itself. Ouray Brewing Co fits right in with this scene, with hanging bar stools fashioned from former ski lift cables (they turned out to be more fashionable than comfortable) and a cool rooftop patio to take in the mountains looming above (unfortunately, dogs weren’t allowed on the rooftop).
They’ve been open for four years and list 13 beers on their web site, but only their Pale, Brown and Red are staples. They had 5-6 beers on tap when we were there and, as you may have guessed, I favored the IPA.
In addition to sharing a flight, we had a nice lunch and a good conversation with their laid back staff. In addition to liking the brewery, we were fond of some of their schwag and left with a cute t-shirt for Lauren and a nice Ouray brewery glass for me.
Their only distribution outside of their brewery is the sale of crowlers at the liquor store right next door.
